Architecture and modern design have shaped Natalia Sinkovsky’s approach to painting. Inspired primarily by abstract art, she works with bright, cheerful colours that express her optimistic outlook. Her sailboat series also draws on her appreciation of Expressionism, Baroque art and Cubism.
Sinkovsky develops each composition from an initial idea rather than a prepared sketch. Working mainly in acrylic, she applies thick layers of paint with a palette knife, then adds small graphic details. This particular work is painted in oils.
Born in Kazakhstan in 1959, she completed a master’s degree in architecture and studied drawing and painting. After moving to Israel with her family in 1995, she continued working in architecture and interior design before taking up painting professionally in 2002.
