Leonid Afremov was a Mexican–Israeli modern impressionist artist known for his distinctive palette knife technique and colourful oil paintings. His subjects included landscapes, city scenes, seascapes, flowers and portraits. He represented himself, selling primarily online with limited involvement in exhibitions, galleries or dealerships.
Born in Vitebsk, Belarus, he moved to Israel in 1990 and lived in Boca Raton, Florida, between 2002 and 2010. He then settled in Playa del Carmen, Mexico, to retire and teach young artists through what became Afremov Studio. He died on 19 August 2019 and is buried in the town’s municipal cemetery.
