Leonid Afremov was a Mexican–Israeli modern impressionist artist known for his distinctive palette knife technique and colourful oil paintings. His subjects included landscapes, city scenes, seascapes, flowers and portraits, with most of his work considered politically neutral.
Afremov represented himself, promoting and selling his paintings primarily online, with limited involvement in exhibitions, galleries or dealerships.
Born in Vitebsk, Belarus, he lived there until 1990 before moving to Israel. Between 2002 and 2010, he lived in Boca Raton, Florida, before settling in Playa del Carmen, Mexico, to retire and teach young artists through what became Afremov Studio.
His immediate family later joined him in Playa del Carmen. Afremov died on 19 August 2019 and is buried in the town’s municipal cemetery.
