Pablo Picasso (1881–1973) was a Spanish painter and sculptor, widely regarded as one of the greatest artists of the 20th century. He co-founded Cubism, an approach that breaks subjects into abstract, geometric forms and reassembles them within a composition.

His extensive output included more than 20,000 pictures. Among his best-known paintings is Guernica, which depicts the horrors of war following the bombing of the town. At the age of 90, a selection of his works was exhibited at the Louvre in Paris.
